Medjugorje - True or False Apparition?

Medjugorge is a very hotly debated topic. It's supporters insist that
it's a true, citing alleged miracles, conversions, and such phenomena
as Rosaries supposedly turning to gold as proof that it's really the
Blessed Virgin Mary "appearing" there. They love to talk of how it's
ok to believe since one day the Pope could approve it.

Those who are against Medjugorge cite the bishop's statements against
it's authenticity, and point out out that in many messages it contra-
dicts the Teachings of the Church.

So, is the Blessed Virgin Mary really appearing in Medjugorge?

The answer is very simple, but many people do not want to deal with
the answer for various reasons.

Here are some facts about Medjugorge, first from one of the Bishop's
statemets, and then from 2 books which are intended to be positive
toward Medjugorge:

First, from the Bishop's statement:

February 1990: statement of Bp. Zanic
The Truth about Medjugorje: Bishop Zanic's Latest Statement

5. The credibility of the "seers" - Mirjana Dragicevic. One month
after the beginning of the "apparitions" I went to Medjugorje to
question the "seers." I asked each of them to take an oath on the
cross and demanded that they speak the truth. (This conversation and
oath were recorded on tape.) The first one was Mirjana: "We went to
look for our sheep when at once..." (The associate pastor interrupted
and told me that they actually went out to smoke, which they hid from
their parents.) "Wait a minute, Mirjana, you're under oath. Did you
go out to look for your sheep?" She put her hand over her
mouth. "Forgive me, we went out to smoke," she said. She then showed
me the watch on which the "miracle" occurred because the hands of the
watch had gone haywire. I took the watch to a watch expert, who said
that the watch had certainly fallen and become disordered. After
bringing the watch back to her I told her not to mention that a
miracle occurred. Yet, on cassettes taped later on, she went to to
speak of how a miracle occurred with the watch and that initially
they had gone out to search for their sheep.
Later on, she claimed that Our Lady said that all faiths are equal.

How much can we believe Mirjana?

XII
ECUMENISM

The six visionaries all say the Madonna has told them that, in God,
differences do not exist among his (sic) people; therefore diversity
in religion need not seperate people. Differences arise in the mundane
world only because people isolate themselves. Every person, she says,
must be respected, despite his or her particular profession of faith.
No religious person should held in contempt, if he or she is sincere
in his or her profession.
GOD PRESIDEDS OVER ALL RELIGIONS AS A KING CONTROLS HIS SUBJECTS,
THROUGH HIS PRIESTS AND MINISTERS. Mary emphasized, however, that
Jesus Christ is the only mediator of salvation.
Is there an essential difference among, say, Catholics and Protest-
ants-in belonging to and praying in a particulat church or community?
The Virgin answered:
IT IS NOT EQUALLY EFFICACIOUS TO BELONG TO OR PRAY IN ANY CHURCH
OR COMMUNITY, BECAUSE THE HOLY SPIRIT GRANTS HIS POWER DIFFERENT-
LY AMONG THE CHURCHES AND MINISTERS. ALL BELIEVERS DO NOT PRAY
THE SAME WAY. IT IS INTENTIONAL THAT ALL APPARITIONS ARE UNDER
THE AUSPICES OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH.

Again, the Madonna warned against condeming a person for sincerely
holding a counter belief, and emphasized that such a person must be
respected. Such disdain is especially prevalent in rural areas, and
shouls not be countenanced.

MY COMMENT: One of the sure signs that an apparition is not from God
is when the so-called seers lie. About anything. In the statement of
the bishop, he shows that he caught one of the "seers" in a lie, and
about the very first supposed "apparition"!!! The very first apparit-
ion, by the admission of Mirjana herself, in fact never took place!!!
Thus, on that one point alone, Medjugorje is proven to be a false
apparition.

Second, "God presides over all religions as a king controls his
subjects, through his priests and ministers." ??????

The Roman Catholic Church is the one true religion founded by Jesus
Christ, GOD HIMSELF. All other religions are man-created. God does
not "preside" over other religions, He only permits them to remain in
existence.

Third: "It is not equally efficacious to belong to or pray in any chu-
rch or community, because the Holy Spirit grants his power differently
among the churches and ministers." ?????

So, I'm supposed to believe that a Catholic, in the state of grace,
praying to God after having received Holy Communion, with all the
correct dispositions, is not more worthy of being heard by God than
a Protestant who is, objectively, in a constant state of mortal sin
because he rejects known truth? You can debate whether a given Protes-
tant is ACTUALLY in a state of grace or not, but the bottom line is,
OBJECTIVELY. Am I really supposed to believe that the Protestant is
in a better position to have his prayer heard?

This is definitely not something the Blessed Virgin Mary would say.

Next, here is a quote from P. 124 of the same book. I will only quote
the pertinent part. In this section of the book it is an interview; as
I am working with a photocopy of the page, and I forgot who were the
2 people doing the interview, you will have to obtain a copy of the
book to find out. I'm starting about one-third of the way down.

T: This behavior of people-they're under the influence of the devil.
But the devil does not have to be IN them?

M: No, no. The devil is not IN them, but they're under the influence
of the devil, although he enters into SOME of them.
To prevent this, at least to some extent, the Madonna said we need
communal prayer, family prayer. She stressed the need for family pray-
er most of all. Also, every family should have at least one sacred
object in the house, and houses should be blessed regularly.
She also emphasized the failings of religious people, especially in
small villages-for example, here in Medjugorje, where there is seper-
ation from Serbians [i.e., Serbian Orthodox]and Moslems. The seperat-
ion is not good The Madonna always stresses that there is but one God,
and that people have enforced unnatural seperation. ONE CANNOT TRULY
BELIEVE, BE A TRUE CHRISTIAN, IF HE DOES NOT RESPECT OTHER RELIGIONS
AS WELL. YOU DO NOT REALLY BELIEVE IN GOD IF YOU MAKE FUN OF OTHER
RELIGIONS. (emphasis mine).

+++++
MY COMMENTS: ONE CANNOT TRULY BELIEVE, BE A TRUE CHRISTIAN, IF HE DOES
NOT RESPECT OTHER RELIGIONS AS WELL" ?????????????

This is in complete and total contradiction of the Catholic Faith. The
Church and the Bible NOWHERE teach that we must respect other religi-
ons. NO WHERE. The Church and the Bible teach that we must follow all
that Christ commanded, which by definition means we must be Catholic
in order to attain salvation, and that we must UTTERLY REJECT all
other religions, which are man-made and are in fact from the devil.

Lastly, from the book "The Visions of the Children: The Apparitions
of the Blessed Mother at Medjugorje" , by Janice T. Connell, copyright
1992:

Page 119 (the 2nd question asked, on the sixth line own the page.)
This is an interview with Vicka:

Q. Is the Blessed Mother calling all people on earth to be Catholic?
A. No. The Blessed Mother says all religions are dear to her and her
Son. She says it is we on earth who have made division. She says we
are all children of God our Father. Jesus redeemed all. Not everyone
accepts redemption. We have to choose God, to choose heaven.

+++++
MY COMMENT: What more proof could an objective person who truly desi-
res to follow the will of GOD possibly need that Medjugorje is a false
apparition? It's straight from the so-called "seers" themselves. To
lie about anything having to do with an apparition, let alone about
the very first supposed one is to prove that the "appariton" is not
from God. In addition, to say that the Blessed Virgin Mary is not
calling all to become Catholic is blasphemy. The Blessed Virgin Mary
wills what God wills, and God wills the salvation of all. And the only
way to attain salvation is to die a practicing Catholic in the state
of grace. PERIOD. To assert anything contrary is to put yourself
outside the Church, and if you do not repent of such before death, to
condemn yourself to Hell forever.

Medjugorje is a false apparition which MUST be rejected as false.
